Perfect family vacation destination
The Hyatt regency Maui is our family’s happy place. The kids love the pools, activities, and many species of birds while mom and dad enjoy the beach and close proximity to so many relaxing and adventurous activities. We are already looking forward to our next trip!

OKAY - but note construction
We were on the 9th floor with a partial ocean view and partially overlooking the Luau show. It was quiet except for nights when the show was going on but I believe it ended by 8pm. We appreciated the balcony where we could sit out and see the sunrises. The walk to Whaler Village is 0.7 miles along the water beach walk. Note that the path detours around a condo building but you can keep walking on the beach sand if you don't want to add distance to your walk. This could be an issue for those with mobility issues. We were disappointed in the pool area. Due to the construction, it seems as if loungers were jammed together with little personal space. Staff were tagging unattended beach towels and retrieving them after an hour to open up seating. I was not able to enjoy the pool due to knee issues so I could not jump down or climb the exit railing stairs out. There were no gradual steps with railings down into the pool that you typically see. You had to sit down on the pool side wall, slide down to the pool bench and then jump in or take the exit railing stairs down and jump in. The beach area is very narrow and refurbishment of the dunes is in progress. Although people were in the ocean, I didn't see anyone actually sitting on the beach. The beach is much wider as you go North such as at the Westin. The restaurants were pretty limiting as the Swan Court hosted the breakfast buffet for $38 each which ran until 11am and then converted to the steakhouse @ 5pm. The bar restaurant Umalu, offered what we thought was a limited menu. There is also a Japanese fusion restaurant which opened @ 5pm and coffee place open until 2pm. I would have liked to see a little more menu variety such as a regular pizza option or general meat options, meatloaf, chicken, etc. We walked to Whaler Village 3 of our 5 nights. For what we paid per night, we expected better. Also, watch your bills. We asked for an interim folio and found 3 nights of valet parking charged to our room (we did not have a car), a regency lounge drink charge (we did not have access) and a random $90+ charge pending to our credit card which we still cannot identify.

Hyatt Regency- Unexpected Stay
We were disappointed by this visit to a Hyatt Regency due to: Room was not fully cleaned following prior guest, no shower curtain provided and took requests to front desk and locating a maid ourselves to obtain and finally take showers, we were upgraded to an 'accessible' room at registration with a shower bench that hung down from wall leaving only 2/3 of the tub/shower useable, entire grotto pool area closed down resulting in guests stacked on each other in remaining pool area, roach in room (only one from what we noticed), and some worn down and dated areas of room/balcony. Aside from this, general grounds are beautiful, and check-in process was a breeze. The leis at check-in were also appreciated.

Awesome place
The reviews that talk about construction issues seemed overblown to me. Yes some work is being done but it never affected our trip. The place is stunning and clean, staff was wonderful, and the service was exceptional. It’s right on the ocean and has a nice beach. We ate at every restaurant on property. All were very good. We bought regency club access which gave you a pick up breakfast, snacks through the day and in. evening. That could be your evening meal if you want to cut costs and eat light. I will definitely recommend and should I return to Maui I know where I’ll stay.

Beautiful sunset mountain & Ocean views!
Once pool area and other renovations are complete, nothing else to be of concern. Nice local Beach (Kanaappali) is walking distance. Bring your water shoes because there are a lot of rocks in the ocean. Waterfalls and swans onsite added elegance.
