Great resort just not for us. Staff amazing!
We spent two weeks at Secrets Tulum. This was our first all inclusive in 10 years and we had low expectations after reading some of the reviews. Note, we are foodies and look forward to the food as much as we do the beach and other amenities. We are not fans of the buffet and the one time we attempted to go, there was a line up to get in. We stayed in a preferred room and had access to the preferred pool and the Grotto. The resort is beautiful and unusual. It was much larger than I expected. I would not recommend it for anyone with mobility issues. There are steps and trip hazards everywhere, in particular on the roof where the dining rooms, spa and gym are located. The roof is also where entertainment events and outdoor buffets are held. The resort was very clean. Staff was constantly working to sweep up sand (which there is a lot of). Room was large and clean. The beds and linens comfy. Coffee,, snacks and mini bar refreshed daily. Pools - there are a lot of pools. We only used the privileged pool in the Grotto, water temp ranged from refreshing to hot tub temp. There was no consistency. The pools, except for The roof top, are surrounded by sand, Beautiful but there is no escaping the mess. Lots of Beds and chairs, never had a problem getting one. Always a towel lady/man to assist. Service for drinks and food at The pool was excellent. The Grotto Restaurant - although it has a small menu the food is consistent and the service exemplary. They have a petit filet, which was the best beef we had in the two weeks there. Antonio the head waiter/manager was quality and made sure that we were made to feel important and ensures that we always were happy with our meal. Antonio is the reason for our overall positive experience at this resort. The beach - we enjoyed the beach club. It was normally easy to get a bed, and only once were there no towels. The preferred area was disappointing. We ate at the restaurant and had excellent fish and shrimp tacos and green salad. The negative is the shuttle to the beach. The first couple of trips were interesting, almost like an excursion, but after a few days of lining up like cattle, arriving 20 minutes before departure and then having to wait for a 2nd shuttle got old really fast. Dining - the dining rooms just didn’t his the mark for us. There was no consistency, confusion when ordering. They did change one restaurant from Middle Eastern to Italian and that food was better. We took most of our meals at the Grotto. Room service was fast, with a limited menu. Gym - very small and could get crowded in the morning. Entertainment was just ok, the exception was the swing band. Lobby bar - we like having a cocktail before dinner. The lobby bar is small, only 4 stools with some seating around it and couches … in sand. It was unusual. Good drinks and service. Overall we enjoyed ourselves but would not return. The novelty of the beach shuttle wore off quickly, food was meh, except for The Grotto. The sand everywhere was beautiful but it was everywhere. During the day there was little escape from the heat as there was no ocean breeze. All staff members we had contact with were professional, friendly and positive. The staff make this resort! I would like to make mention of some staff who made our trip a positive experience. Antonio (Grotto) best service ever Jose - Grotto Pool, always attentive and made sure our refreshments were topped up Alonso Fernando - out concierge who assisted us with a few issues we had Albierto - our room attendant who left the room sparkling every day.

Can't wait to go back
This resort exceeded our expectations and we can't wait to go back again! From check in to check out, we felt welcomed and appreciated. The resort was clean, the beds were like heaven! Can't remember the last time I slept that well. The service was exceptional. Pools were incredible and we were always able to find a seat where we wanted. Loved our swim out room. It's a must. It's so nice to take a late night dip after dinner and entertainment, to cool off before bed. Loved the beach club. It was easy to get a shuttle. I highly recommend Secrets Tulum for your next stay

Great place, they bring the beach to you!
Would have been 5 stars if it was on the beach, but just a short bus ride away so not too bad. Pablo the server absolutely was the best on the rooftop terrace. Great ambiance, didn’t have to wait in line anywhere, the pools were great and easy to find a lounger. First time to a secrets and loved the experience!

Quick Birthday Weekend
Great relaxed experience. The beach club is a quick trip away and the resort overall is very laid back and even though it was fully booked, we still barely saw anyone. The staff were on top of everything and ready to accommodate any requests. Hydrotherapy in the spa on the final day was definitely the way to end the trip.

Secrets Tulum: A Birthday Getaway to Remember
Introduction For my birthday, my husband and I decided to take a trip to Secrets Tulum. Based on some negative reviews on TripAdvisor and the Secrets Tulum Facebook page, I had very low expectations. However, I’m so grateful for those complainers because the resort completely exceeded my expectations! Were there things that could be improved? Sure. But nothing that ruined our trip or would keep me from recommending the resort—or even returning myself! Pre-Arrival Experience Before arriving, I reached out to the resort to see if they could do anything special for my birthday. They sent me a preference survey where I mentioned my birthday. Upon arrival, our room was decorated with a Happy Birthday sash, balloons, and a dessert! The concierge also arranged a bottle of champagne at our preferred time. However, despite requesting mini bottles of vodka and club soda (both in the survey and verbally with the concierge), none were provided. While not a deal-breaker, it seemed odd to ask for preferences and not fulfill them. Room: A Unique & Luxurious Stay Our Preferred King Swim-Out Suite was one of the most gorgeous rooms we’ve ever stayed in! The swim-out pool is elevated above the preferred pool, giving it a unique layout. Temperature: The room stayed cool, which was refreshing since most resorts tend to be on the warmer side. Bathroom: Huge, with high ceilings, making the space feel grand. Noise: None! We had some of the best sleep we’ve had in a long time. Toiletries: Secrets no longer offers mini shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel. Instead, there are wall-mounted bottles with a different brand and scent than in the past—just a minor personal disappointment. Resort: Stunning Design & Endless Pools Secrets Tulum is one of the most uniquely designed resorts I’ve ever seen. Every time you step out of your room, you’re on a mini adventure to discover a new pool or hidden nook. Pools Everywhere: So many that even by the end of our trip, we hadn’t visited them all. Beach Feel: While the resort isn’t beachfront, many pools are surrounded by sand to replicate that experience (though this does mean tracking sand back to your room). Navigation Tip: The layout is confusing at first, but going to the top floor helps you get your bearings. Never Feels Crowded: There was always space at the bars and pools, likely because the beach club is offsite, splitting the guests. The aesthetic is beyond beautiful, and the attention to detail shows that someone put real passion into creating this resort. Daily Highlights Day 1: Arrival & First Impressions We arrived at 3:30 PM and were smoothly checked in at the Preferred Club (though at first, there was no bartender at the lounge—just the UVC rep making drinks). After settling in, I enjoyed our swim-out pool with a book while my husband took a nap. For dinner, we tried Olio, which had mixed reviews online. However, we were pleasantly surprised! The seafood and rice dish was delicious, and while my chicken shawarma needed a bit more cooking on the pita, it was still tasty. Fun note: By the end of our trip, Olio had changed to an Italian restaurant! The resort is clearly listening to feedback. Day 2: Brewery & Foam Party Fun We visited Tulum Brewery, where the bellhop helped arrange a taxi and pick-up. Later, we made it back for the foam party at the rooftop pool—definitely a scene! Next time, I’d rent a Bali bed for this event. Dinner was at Jasmine, where our server, Enrique, was fantastic. He guided us through ordering sushi and other dishes, including rock shrimp, almond chicken, and fried ice cream, which were all amazing. Day 3: Beach Club & Super Bowl VIP Experience We booked a VIP table for the Super Bowl but had some difficulty tracking down the person in charge. Gonzalo at the front desk went above and beyond to help us book our table and accommodate our dietary restrictions. At the Secrets Beach Club, we got there early (9:15 AM) to grab prime seats. There’s a preferred section with its own pool, but drink and food service doesn’t start until later, so we got affordable beachfront massages ($50 for an hour!) in the meantime. The Super Bowl party was fun, though the food service was odd—just the tomahawk steak or lobster was served, and you had to get your own sides from a buffet. Day 4: Birthday Bliss & Spa Day Started my birthday with breakfast, followed by drinks at the lobby bar with Berth, an amazing bartender! Highly recommend his mini beer shots. We booked the complimentary hydrotherapy (included with Preferred Club) and upgraded for $50 per person for a head, foot, and hand massage—totally worth it! We spent the rest of the day hopping between the preferred pool, rooftop pools, and middle resort pools. Dinner was room service—as with other Secrets resorts, some dishes were a hit, some were a miss. Day 5: Bike Tour & Dining Highlights We joined the bike tour (~2.5 miles), which was a great way to explore the area and learn about Mayan culture. Luna and Mila were excellent guides! Lunch at Grotto was a standout meal: shrimp flatbread, petite filet, crab mac and cheese, and chipotle chicken wrap—all delicious. For dinner, we returned to Jasmine and requested Enrique as our server again. The second visit was just as amazing, with highlights like gyoza, spring rolls, pad Thai, and almond chicken. A sweet touch: Gonzalo surprised us with a complimentary 25-minute massage and a bottle of champagne to make up for a concierge mix-up earlier in the trip! Day 6: Farewell & Final Thoughts On our last morning, we had breakfast at Jasmine (French toast and strawberry granola were delicious) before heading to our free farewell massage with Carlos and Jeliz—wish it had been longer than 25 minutes! Check-out with Aaron at the Preferred Club was smooth, and we had one last drink with Berth at Rendezvous Bar before heading to the airport. Final Thoughts: Would I Return? Absolutely! Secrets Tulum has left such a lasting impression, not only for its stunning aesthetic but for its exceptional staff who went above and beyond. Muchísimas gracias to everyone who made this trip so special! I can’t stop talking about returning. ❤️
