The locals who live on the relatively small, rural island of Vieques off eastern Puerto Rico affectionately call it "Isla Nena" or "Little Girl Island." The island is dominated by Vieques National Wildlife Refuge, with little development to mar its gorgeous beaches. The island’s other impressive natural feature is the bioluminescent water of Mosquito Bay. The small town of Esperanza caters mainly to tourists, with a pleasant boardwalk facing out to the Caribbean.
