Lawton, Oklahoma is the home of the Museum of the Great Plains, featuring archaeological and cultural artifacts of the westward expansion. History is also on display at Fort Sill, established in 1869 and still active. Here you’ll find many historic buildings and the gravesite of Chief Geronimo. The Great Plains’ natural history is also on display at the nearby Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge and Tallgrass Prairie Preserve, where you can see elk, deer, and one of the largest buffalo herds in the country.
