Fayetteville, North Carolina, is proud of its place as “Freedom’s Home.” Nearby Fort Bragg is the largest U.S. Army base in the country, and prompted Cumberland County to declare itself a ”Sanctuary for Soldiers and Their Families.” The community has rallied to provide soldiers and their families with services ranging from free childcare to job placement. There’s lots to see for military enthusiasts, including military museums and monuments dating from the Revolutionary War all the way up to the present. Fayetteville is a popular year-round golf destination and a stop on the East Coast Greenway, a hiking and biking trail that will eventually stretch from Maine to Florida.
