Cedar Rapids

History buffs will find plenty to see in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. West of the Cedar River, the Brucemore Estate, an 1886 Queen Anne-style mansion, serves as a community cultural center, with tours, exhibits, concerts, theatre, and holiday events throughout year. The Czech Village neighborhood south of the river is home to many ethnic shops, restaurants and bakeries, as well as the National Czech and Slovak Museum and the historic Bohemian National Cemetery. A short distance from the city are the seven villages of the Amana Colonies, founded by German immigrants in 1855, where you can browse antiques and handicrafts, and enjoy hearty family-style cooking and locally made wine and beer.
